Your Captain

Captain Jeff Watkins Jr. is the owner and operator of Southern Tail Charters, based in Boca Grande, Florida. A native of the Charlotte Harbor and Boca Grande area and charlotte harbor, Jeff was introduced to fishing at the age of 3 by his father, who was also a local captain. His deep-rooted passion for fishing and knowledge of the local waters have shaped him into an expert guide for inshore, nearshore, and backcountry fishing.

Capt Jeff began his journey in the fishing industry at a very young age. By the age of 7, Capt Jeff began to compete in several professional fishing tournaments, being the youngest competitor for many years. At the age of 12, Capt Jeff began to explore his passion for fishing by working on a fishing charter boat in Boca Grande during his summer breaks and on the weekends, where he quickly learned a new passion for giving others the opportunity to share his passion with. By the age of 18, Capt Jeff wasted no time obtaining is 6-pack Captains license and began growing his fishing charter business, Southern Tail Charters,  from the ground up. 

Jeff specializes in targeting Florida’s most prized gamefish, including tarpon, redfish, snook, and trout. His charter service offers personalized fishing experiences for anglers of all skill levels. Whether you’re looking to catch a trophy tarpon weighing between 125-180 pounds or just enjoy a day on the water, Jeff’s expertise and local knowledge make the trips memorable.

In addition to running Southern Tail Charters, Capt  Jeff is also a firefighter/EMT for a local fire department. On his days off from fishing and firefighting, he likes to…go fishing! He is also a 3rd generation Boca Grande fisherman and 2nd generation Captain.
